Coworking Trends We’re Tracking in 2026

Coworking has matured significantly over the past decade. What began as a solution for freelancers and early-stage startups has evolved into a sophisticated ecosystem supporting companies at nearly every stage of growth. Since opening in 2017, we’ve made a concerted effort to stay ahead of the curve and keep an eye on coworking trends.

As hybrid work becomes the default for many organizations, coworking spaces are redefining how professional communities function. The best coworking communities in 2026 are doing far more than offering desks and meeting rooms. They are creating environments that support productivity, collaboration, and connection in ways traditional offices often struggle to replicate.

Hospitality is replacing traditional office culture

One of the most noticeable coworking trends is the rise of hospitality-driven spaces. Rather than operating like a conventional office building, leading coworking environments borrow heavily from hospitality principles. This practice has been in full force at The Shop Workspace since our inception in 2017 and we’re excited to continue to press the envelope through this year.

Our members expect spaces to feel welcoming, thoughtfully designed, and easy to navigate. We know that details matter, from the coffee program to how guests are greeted to the way lighting changes throughout the day.

This shift reflects a larger truth: when people have flexibility over where they work, they choose environments that make them feel comfortable and inspired.

Design has become a strategic tool

Design has always been important in coworking, but in 2026 it is becoming a competitive advantage. The division between decorated and designed spaces will continue to grow as members preferences continue to be shaped.

The most successful coworking spaces think deeply about how people actually work. They offer quiet areas for focused work (like the 4th floor in our Salt Lake location), collaborative spaces for teams, and flexible meeting environments that adapt to different needs throughout the day.

Materials, lighting, and acoustics are no longer aesthetic choices but rather a part of a broader strategy to support productivity and wellbeing.

Community is intentional, not accidental

Early coworking spaces often relied on organic interactions between members to create community. Today, the strongest communities are curated with intention.

Our onsite Community Teams invest time in introducing members to one another, organizing events that encourage collaboration, and creating moments where relationships can form naturally.

For founders and teams, these connections often become one of the most valuable aspects of coworking.

Flexibility continues to redefine the office

Companies are increasingly reluctant to commit to large, long-term leases. Coworking offers an alternative that allows organizations to scale their footprint as their needs change.

Private offices, dedicated desks, and flexible memberships provide a spectrum of options that accommodate teams at different stages.

This flexibility has made coworking particularly appealing to startups, creative agencies, and remote-first organizations. To take it a step further this year, we’re rolling out new term commitments as granular as by the day!

Coworking is becoming an ecosystem

The most successful spaces are evolving into ecosystems that support the broader needs of their members. This might include partnerships with service providers, introductions within the community, professional development programming, or access to networks beyond a single location, like our partnership with LExC.

As the nature of work continues to change, we anticipate both coworking trends and subsequent communities will likely play an even more important role in shaping how professionals connect, collaborate, and build businesses.
