The secret of Salt Lake City is out for company expansion, and Merrimak Capital has been ready for years. We sat down with their VP of Business Development, Jack, to learn more about Merrimak Capital.

Can you tell us more about the work that you do?

Merrimak is an equipment leasing and financing company, primarily serving the Fortune 500. Our business model is to manage the full equipment lifecycle from procurement through resale/recycling. We have a team of roughly fifty people that spans the entire US. In Utah, we have employees responsible for billing, lease documentation, pricing, administration, account management, environmental sustainability, and operations.

What do you enjoy most about the work that you do?

At Merrimak, we are a small company, and no two days are the same. As a 50-person company servicing hundreds of large corporations, we are fast-paced and foster a growth mindset. Merrimak employees enjoy taking on new challenges and adapting to an ever-changing industry.

Can you tell us more about Merrimak’s growth and expansion into Salt Lake City? What led you all to expand here?

Merrimak moved its headquarters to Salt Lake City in 2020 after our CEO and her family moved to UT. Her family has personal ties to UT, and the company was excited by the opportunities that UT and its workforce offered to a growing company like Merrimak.

Can you tell us more about Merrimak’s diversity initiative?

Merrimak’s diversity and inclusion initiative is integral to its identity. Merrimak is a certified Woman Business Enterprise by WBENC, and Merrimak is comprised of well over 60% women. Merrimak has an extremely strong commitment to a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Has The Shop impacted the way that Merrimak works?

The Shop has provided Merrimak with great flexibility to grow at our own pace. The staff and infrastructure at the Shop supports Merrimak in every way. We enjoy utilizing the combination of private and shared space and are grateful for the Shop and all that Jen, Anne, and Mike do to support us.

What do you think the best kept secret of Salt Lake City/Utah is?

The best kept secret of Salt Lake City is the cold brew tap at the Shop! It is open 24/7 and is one of the countless perks of the shared workspace. Outside of the Shop, one of the best kept secrets of Utah is the month of April when everything quiets down, and the trails and outdoor spaces are a little less crowded. Also, the Big Cottonwood Canyon summer flea market at Brighton! It is a great way to beat the heat in the valley and find some really unique vintage items.

We are thrilled to be a part of Merrimak’s growth in Salt Lake City. You can often find members of their team on our 2nd floor, or enjoying member events! Be sure to say hello the next time you see them in the space.
