We’re excited to once again team up with the Japan Society of New Orleans to host a special, free screening of The God of Ramen at The Shop on Thursday, April 18. Whether you’re a food documentary fan, a ramen enthusiast, or just looking for a unique community event, this film night is one you won’t want to miss.
The God of Ramen tells the story of Kazuo Yamagishi, a legendary figure in Japan’s ramen culture and the creator of the iconic “Taishoken” ramen shop in Tokyo. The documentary spans over a decade, offering a rare and intimate look into Yamagishi’s life—his tireless work ethic, his deep commitment to his craft, and the profound relationships he builds with those around him. It’s a moving portrait of passion, resilience, and the quiet power of food to bring people together.
Doors open at 6:30 PM, and the film will begin promptly at 7:00 PM in the 3rd floor commons area. Seating is first-come, first-served, and admission is completely free. Grab a friend, come early, and enjoy a cozy evening of culture, storytelling, and ramen appreciation.
As always, we love hosting events that spark conversation and celebrate community—and this screening is no exception. Whether you’re a Shop member or just visiting, we invite you to join us for a special night honoring the heart and soul behind one of Japan’s most beloved dishes.
See you there—and bring your appetite for a good story! 🍜
