We’re thrilled to announce that The Shop at the CAC is partnering with the Japan Society of New Orleans to host a special cultural evening featuring the Japanese Cinema Series and the New Orleans premiere of The Spirit of Japan — a newly released documentary that delves into family, heritage, and the centuries-old art of shochu-making.
📅 Date: Friday, July 25
🕕 Time: Shochu Sampling at 6PM | Screening at 7PM
📍 Location: The Shop at the CAC, 3rd Floor – 900 Camp St., New Orleans
🎟️ Cost: FREE and open to the public (registration required!)
This one-night-only event is your chance to sample a rare Japanese spirit not available anywhere else in Louisiana — courtesy of Honkaku Spirits — while experiencing a beautifully filmed story of generational legacy and craftsmanship in rural Japan.
Following the film, stick around for an in-person Q&A with Director Joseph Overbey and Executive Producer Stephen Lyman as they share insights on their immersive experience living with the Wakamatsu family and documenting their deeply personal journey.
