Though some people have mixed feelings about the efficacy of recycling, we still believe that small actions have the potential to lead to big results. Defined as, “to pass again through a series of changes or treatments in order to regain material for use” – recycling should be seen as one of the last steps in an items sustainability journey. Ideally, by the time you’ve refused, reduced and reused – there shouldn’t be a lot left to recycle!
Every municipality has their own set of rules for what is acceptable via recycling, make sure to read up on your specific city to make sure that you’re ensuring the success of your efforts. At a base level, be sure to recycle paper, plastic, metal and glass. For those bonus points, go the extra mile to recycle e-waste in appropriate bins (often found in grocery stores) and clothing where accepted (H&M or Madewell are wonderful options).
There are many reasons why recycling makes sense, we hope the next time you go to toss something that you are recycling to the fullest potential!
