Tell us more about your company, what do you all do?

I work for a company called Marsh Mclennan Agency, as their National Senior Website Specialist, which is a very generic way to say Digital Marketing Manager. MMA provides business insurance, employee health & benefits, retirement & wealth, and private client services to individuals and organizations nationwide. Beyond that, we do a lot of risk analysis, and industry research, and are constantly launching new products and services. We recently were ranked as the 9th best place to work in the country and have only been around a few years. MMA falls under the Marsh Mclennan Companies umbrella, including Mercer and Marsh, and two consulting agencies, Oliver Wyman and Guy Carpenter. The great thing about that is that MMA feels like a start-up but we have all of the resources and security backing us from a company that has been around for 150 years.

What is your favorite part about the work that you do?

The variety of things I can work on each day is what I enjoy the most. I am the point person for SEO, paid ads, UX, and A/B testing which allows me to wear many hats and create holistic marketing strategies. No two days are the same and I can see the impact my work has on the growth of the company. It’s hard to be bored when you’re working at a pseudo-start-up and there’s always something that needs to be done. Beyond the day-to-day, the flexibility my job provides allows me to travel, snowboard, go to film festivals, and work on my ceramics, which is really my favorite part of the work that I do.

How has being a member of The Shop Workspace impacted your work and creativity?

I’m not someone who can work from home effectively, it’s too easy for me to send an email and then decide that I need a nap haha. The Shop allows me to separate where I live from where I work which makes it much easier for me to focus and stay on task when I’m not working from home. The environment of The Shop encourages me to get things done. Seeing everyone else working makes me want to work harder because even though we aren’t actually coworkers, I still want everyone around me to at least think that I am working hard haha.

Share a memorable moment or achievement that happened while working at The Shop.

I’ve only been coming to The Shop since last June, but I was able to get the job I have currently while I was working here, and it was a real level up compared to my previous role as a manager at a marketing agency. I’m hoping to have many more achievements here in the future, but a new job is a pretty good place to start.

What’s your favorite thing about the community at The Shop Workspace?

The people here are awesome. A lot of people here have their usual areas they like to work from and getting to know the people you tend to see around where you’re working is fun.

Any advice for fellow members or entrepreneurs considering coworking spaces?

I think your experience at The Shop is what you make it. Network with the other members here, take advantage of the non-work perks like social events, and you might make some friends along the way.
