Four years ago, The Shop Workspace opened its doors in Salt Lake City with a big dream: to create a coworking space that went beyond desks and Wi-Fi. A place where creativity meets productivity, where professionals, entrepreneurs, and creatives could come together to work, grow, and thrive in a space designed with intention and built for connection. Since opening in 2021, we’ve seen our space come alive, through countless member milestones, spontaneous rooftop sunsets, art-filled hallways, and partnerships that have turned into friendships. As we celebrate The Shop SLC’s 4th Anniversary, we’re inviting the entire community to join us for a full day of free coworking and a rooftop party to toast everything we’ve built together.
Whether you’ve been with us since day one or are just getting to know The Shop, we’d love to see you on May 8th. But before we pop the bubbly, let’s take a look back at a few things we’re proud of—and what’s ahead in year five.
Four Years of Community, Creativity, and Coworking
We didn’t open The Shop SLC to be just another workspace. We wanted it to feel different. More curated, more community-forward, and more connected to Salt Lake’s spirit. Four years later, that vision has held strong.
Here are just a few highlights from our first four years:
1. A Thriving Member Community
We’ve welcomed hundreds of members from industries ranging from tech and law to design, nonprofits, and everything in between. Some have grown their teams within our walls, others have launched entirely new ventures from a Commons table or private office. We’ve hosted engagements, art shows, fundraisers, film shoots, fashion pop-ups, and yes even the occasional bring your dog to work day.
Our members have been featured in local and national publications, launched award-winning products, and mentored the next generation of Salt Lake leaders. Watching members collaborate across disciplines, refer business to one another, and genuinely root for each other’s success is the ultimate reward for our team.
2. Local Art + Culture, Front and Center
Art has always been central to our identity. Over the past four years, we’ve featured dozens of local artists throughout our space on our walls and commons space. We’ve hosted gallery openings and worked with curators to keep things fresh and reflective of the creativity that lives in Salt Lake.
We’ve also leaned into partnerships that support the broader cultural ecosystem. From sponsoring Kilby Block Party and Salt Lake Design Week to teaming up with Spy Hop and Rocky Mountain Innocence Center through our MyCommunity program, we believe coworking can be a platform for bigger change.
3. Events That Spark Connection
From our signature rooftop member socials to yoga, wine tastings, and monthly breakfast pop-ins, we’ve had no shortage of reasons to gather. Our team has hosted over 500 events since opening many of which were member-led, mission-driven, or simply spontaneous ideas that turned into magic.
One of our favorite things is watching members who met at an event end up working together or becoming real-life friends. That’s the magic of a well-designed coworking space: it opens the door, but it’s the people who make the connection.
4. A Commitment to Local Impact
Over the past four years, we’ve offered over $15,000 in nonprofit discounts, hosted dozens of pro bono events, and opened our doors to local initiatives that align with our values. Whether it’s been a grassroots community campaign, a pop-up from a local entrepreneur, or space for a pitch competition, we’re proud to be a platform for people doing meaningful work in Salt Lake.
So… What’s Next?
We’re not slowing down anytime soon. As we look ahead to our fifth year, here’s what’s on our radar:
- Expanding Member Perks: From new neighborhood discounts to exclusive experiences (spoiler: there’s a members-only music series in the works), we’re continuing to invest in member value.
- Sustainability-Focused Improvements: You may have noticed some recent upgrades to our waste management, coffee programs, and amenities. Earth Month might be over, but our commitment to sustainable coworking is year-round.
- A Stronger Digital Experience: We’ve recently rolled out updates to our member portal, and we’re working on making booking, connecting, and sharing opportunities easier than ever.
- Growing Our Family: The Shop Brooklyn opens later this summer, and while it’s on the other side of the country, the lessons learned (and vibes created) here in Salt Lake have played a major role in shaping its launch. So thank you for being a piece of our blueprint. Be sure to visit us in the Big Apple!
Celebrate With Us: May 8th, All Day Long
To mark The Shop SLC’s 4th Anniversary, we’re throwing a birthday bash and you’re invited. Here’s the plan:
Free Coworking All Day
Come by anytime between 9 AM and 5 PM to work from our Commons space. Whether you need a change of scenery, a break from WFH, or just want to check us out, we’ve got a seat (and cold brew) waiting for you.
Rooftop Party: 4 PM – 6 PM
Join us on the rooftop for an evening celebration featuring:
- Birthday cake (obviously)
- Specialty drinks and snacks
- A toast to four years of coworking, collaboration, and community
Friends, future members, past collaborators – everyone is welcome.
Thank You, Salt Lake
Whether you’ve been here since 2021 or found us more recently, thank you for being part of The Shop. Your energy, ideas, and presence have made this place more than just a coworking space—it’s become a true community hub.
So come celebrate with us. Raise a glass on the rooftop. Take a moment to meet someone new. And help us kick off year five the right way.
See you May 8th for The Shop SLC’s 4th Anniversary!
