At The Shop Workspace, we’re proud to spotlight members, especially those who bring healing and heart to our community. Today, we’re delighted to introduce Courtney Davies, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of High Desert Healing.
Specializing in mindfulness-based and somatic therapy, Courtney works with adolescents and young adults struggling with anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, Autism, disordered eating, and more. After launching High Desert Healing at The Shop, Courtney filled their caseload within just eight weeks, a milestone credited to their caring approach and the strength of Salt Lake’s mental health community.
Join us as we dive into their story, and discover how The Shop nurtures personal and professional growth, one thoughtful connection at a time.
1. Tell me more about your company, what do you all do?
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. This means I assess, diagnose, and treat folks struggling with their mental health and practice psychotherapy (sometimes referred to as ‘talk therapy’). I specialize in treating adolescents and young adults with anxiety, depression, PTSD, AD/HD, Autism, and disordered eating (to name a few). I focus a lot on mindfulness-based approaches and somatic strategies (meaning body-based approaches as opposed to cognitive approaches). I incorporate a lot less ‘talking’ in my therapy sessions and a lot more ‘feeling’ and experiential strategies. I help my clients with nervous system regulation, healing attachment wounds, and navigating the stressors of life. I believe everybody deserves good therapy.
2. What is your favorite part about the work that you do?
Building relationships with clients! I think it’s important for everyone to have a sense of community and belonging. I may not be able to solve all my client’s problems, but I can make them feel welcome with me.
3. How has being a member of The Shop Workspace impacted your work and creativity?
Being able to bring my dog, Java, into the office has been an absolute game changer! She’s a medium-sized, black-lab-looking puppy. If you’ve spent any time at The Shop, you’ve probably seen her. She wants to say hi to everyone she meets. She gives the best snuggles to clients during sessions and is an incredible emotional support animal.
4. Share a memorable moment or achievement that happened while working at The Shop.
I started working at The Shop when I launched my private practice, High Desert Healing. I filled my caseload with clients in the first 8 weeks of opening my doors. I’m incredibly proud of myself for providing excellent therapy and proud of the Salt Lake community for being so open to the therapy process!
5. What’s your favorite thing about the community at The Shop Workspace?
I’m a sucker for free food. So much relationship building happens over meals and drinks. It’s a wonderful way for clients to feel comfortable in my space, and not like they are in a stuffy corporate office. I want my clients to sit down in my office and feel like they are in someone’s living room, with a warm drink, a cuddly puppy, and a good listener ready to offer support.
6. Any advice for fellow members or entrepreneurs considering coworking spaces?
Being an entrepreneur can be lonely! Having a coworking space provides the connections we all need as humans.
7. What are your top three favorite spots in SLC?
Alta Ski Resort, The Chinatown Supermarket on State St., and anywhere outdoors during wildflower season.
